Black <\/b>Executives at Ingenious Financial<\/a>,\u00a0 have announced plans to raise $10 billion in capital to invest in unbanked and underserved communities. Darnell Parker, founder of Ingenious Financial, and Derek Taylor, Chief Operating Officer, said the $10 billion will fund the capital disbursement towards the following four initiatives:<\/p>\n

\u2022 $4 billion for the financial institution and holding company
\n\u2022 $5 billion for technology products, smartphones, and broadband service
\n\u2022 $600 million to lease nationwide training facilities
\n\u2022 $400 million to hire 500 employees nationwide to train how to use a smartphone and teach financial literacy<\/p>\n

According to the Federal Communications Commission\u2019s Eighth Broadband Progress Report<\/i>, \u201capproximately one in three African Americans, 14 million still don\u2019t have access to computer technology in their homes.\u201d In addition, \u201c35 percent of black households do not have broadband internet capabilities.\u201d This technology gap leaves many black families at a significant technology disadvantage, with less financial security and less ability to fully participate in the broader economy.<\/p>\n

The Report on the Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households<\/i> finds that \u201c14 percent of African Americans were unbanked.\u201d Less wealth translates to black Americans continuing to be subjected to systemic barriers which exacerbate underrepresentation and utilization in the market for financial products and services.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll relevant policy narratives point towards an inclusive environment,\u201d says Derek J. Taylor, chief operating officer of Ingenious Financial, \u201cbut you cannot have an inclusive environment without African American controlled businesses and ownership.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Taylor adds, \u201cNow is the time to sufficiently correct the shameful exclusionary history of disparities and barriers imposed on African Americans throughout American history. We\u2019ve got to act boldly, to be better, to not only offer hope to deliver on the promises of financial certainty, economic empowerment, and confidence for African Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor and Parker say they believe that raising capital through the private Federal Reserve corporation emergency lending program is for the unbanked and underbanked communities timely as well as prudent.<\/p>\n
